On June 24, 2025, the Norwegian Dawn cruise arrived for a few hours at Aarhus, Denmark's second largest port and city. This made it:

  • my first time in Denmark outside of an airport
  • my second of 3 times in Denmark during this trip!

The plan consisted of visiting Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson's 2011 "Your Rainbow Panorama" structure, which sat on the rooftop of the ARoS (Aarhus art museum):

Due to the short amount of time allowed, not much else of the city, other than walking on Åboulevarden (the river boulevard):

Reflection

Visiting museums during port days on a cruise requires selectivity. In order to absorb the content of each museum in such a short time, the visitor must choose one that has the most personal meaning, in addition to local significance. Oftentimes, the "must-see" may clash with personal interests.

Fortunately, for me, this "must-see" turned out to coincide with my tastes.

In another visit, I'll try to have a look at:

  • Dokk1
    • a large public library by the port of Aarhus
  • The Occupation Museum (Besættelsmuseet)
    • discusses the occupation of Denmark during World War II
  • The Old Town (Den Gamla By)
    • for some insight into traditional Danish culture
